The global pandemic has dramatically altered the daily commute of millions of Americans. That has created stark challenges for transit agencies and commuter railroads across the U.S., driving down ridership and ticket revenue and blowing holes in agency budgets. But it has also created opportunities, freeing up capacity on systems that had previously been straining to accommodate surging demand.
We’ll talk with transit advocates, transit passengers, and transit representatives to hear about how agencies and railroads are responding to shifts in ridership, how they can better optimize service patterns to meet these new demands, and what Congress needs to do to assist agencies in this transition.
Panelists:
-
Art Guzzetti, Vice President of Public Policy - American Public Transit Association (confirmed)
-
Alicia Trost, Chief Communications Officer - Bay Area Rapid Transit (confirmed)
-
Hayden Clarkin, Founder & CEO - TransitCon (confirmed)
-
MARTA Riders Advisory Council (invited)

"On behalf of Amtrak’s onboard service staff, I want to thank the Rail Passengers Association for honoring their hard work with this award. The past couple years have indeed been difficult for Amtrak onboard service staff – coping with furloughs and job insecurity, adapting to changing protocols and services, not to mention the unfortunate events such as a tragic derailment and a fatal shooting. Nevertheless, our dedicated members at Amtrak have handled these hurdles with the care, attention and diligence for which they’re known. We thank Rail Passengers for their acknowledgement of our members’ hard work and, as always, look forward to seeing you on the rails."
