| The Amtrak facility is a rudimentary "shack" amidst Salt Lake City's attractive intermodal hub. UTA buses, light rail ("Trax"), commuter rail ("FrontRunner"), Greyhound buses, and Amtrak all converge at this location. The good news is light rail is free for the short ride from the intermodal hub into downtown SLC. The bad news is UTA does NOT operate 24x7 and is not in operation when the eastbound California Zephyr arrives in the middle of the night. For the westbound California Zephyr, availability of public transportation will depend on the day of the week and actual time of the train's arrival. If you have no other alternative you could probably hang around the station until Trax starts running around 5-6 am. Check www.rideuta.com for more info. Walking from the hub into downtown is not recommended. Parking is free but limited to on-street or a small dirt lot across the street from the station. The walk from the shack to the boarding platform is not covered and can be difficult during bad weather. | ||
