NARP offers unpaid internships year
round that can be adjusted to fit your work and/or school schedule. As well
NARP can assist in arranging academic credit for your internship.
Interns
will have the chance to work closely with all departments during their time
with NARP,
while
gaining valuable experience working on Capitol Hill.There
will be opportunities to work on program management,
events
planning, fundraising/development and grant-writing,
donor outreach and fulfillment, office administration, policy research, and
attend Congressional and transportation related hearings and events.
Positions
available
Policy
intern
Interns
will research and stay informed on current rail
transit issues and reports, attend Congressional briefings and hearings, and assist in creating policy briefings.
Ideal candidates have a strong passion for transportation issues and policy;
excellent writing, researching, editing, and analytical skills; and the
capability of handling multiple tasks successfully in a fast-paced professional
environment.
Communications
intern
Interns
will research and write 2-3 blog posts per week (>350 words) for use on the
NARP website and social media sites. Interns will draft and edit press
releases, media advisories, and monitor and produce bi-weekly media reports.
Interns
will also assist in creating policy briefings.
Development
Intern
Interns
will work with closely with the Resource Development Coordinator to increase
membership, create communication materials, research and increase major donor
membership, and assist in event planning. Other duties include media
monitoring, in addition to researching the latest reports and studies on
transportation related happenings. Development Interns will also have the
chance to attend policy briefings, congressional hearings, and transportation
related events.
This
internship is open to undergraduate and graduate students studying journalism,
communications, political science, public policy, or related fields. Applicants
should have a strong academic record, excellent writing and analytical skills,
and a demonstrated interest in and commitment to public interest and passenger
train advocacy.
