Tell your elected officials to invest in high and higher speed trains

We are at a critical point in the fight to create a modern passenger train system in this country.  Opponents of passenger trains, looking at the number of high speed rail projects on the brink of beginning construction, have launched a concerted effort against this investment in America’s future. 

As Congress works on next year's budget, they need to hear from constituents about the pressing need to expand and upgrade passenger train service across the nation.  Mobility and quality of life issues become more relevant as the proportion of older citizens dramatically increases, and as young people become more concerned about the environmental impact of their travel choices. Trains are more energy efficient than automobiles and airplanes, reducing our dependence on foreign sources of oil and domestic drilling that threatens our natural treasures—the full cost of which has been driven home in recent weeks by the Gulf Coast disaster.  Trains will also help to revitalize America's economy, creating good paying manufacturing and operating jobs that can't be outsourced.
