There is a possibility that a portion of the RESTORE Act funds could be used to restore Sunset Limited service between New Orleans and Florida. The Gulf Coast region has been without intercity train service since the Sunset Limited was knocked out by Hurricane Katrina. But the tracks are up and running—what’s needed is funding for restoration of the station infrastructure. Amtrak service is a vital transportation option for these towns—both for residents and tourists—and the RESTORE Act gives us a window to restore this vital link of the national network.
