The westbound Lake Shore Limited derailed near Batavia, N.Y., at 3:45 am this morning. It is not known what caused the accident, but investigators are on the scene. Fourteen cars were derailed, including the diner and two coaches, which slid down an embankment. Two cars and the two locomotives did not derail. There were about 340 people on board, with about 125 injuries. Rail traffic was disrupted.
