SIGNERS OF SENATE LETTER URGING FULL FUNDING OF AMTRAK
February
5, 2003
Nineteen Senators signed a letter to Senate appropriators urging full
funding for Amtrak in fiscal 2003, at the level of $1.2 billion (as approved by
the Senate on January 16). The number was limited, deliberately, so that equal
numbers of Republicans and Democrats appeared. Amtrak says it needs that amount
in order to avoid a shutdown crisis in the spring.
