» 08/31/10: U.S. DOT, FRA, & Amtrak Announce Historic High-Speed Rail Design Standards

The U.S. Department of Transportation, the Federal Railroad Administration, and Amtrak announced the first-ever nationwide uniform standards for high-speed intercity passenger rail cars, a move that will encourage the revival of the domestic passenger rail manufacturing industry.  Read the full DOT announcement, as well as Amtrak’s press release [PDF].


» 08/17/10: FRA Announces $8.5 billion In High Speed Train Applications

The Federal Railroad Administration released a summary of the applications received for the next round of high(er)-speed intercity passenger train funding—$8.5 billion requested by 25 states.  Read more.


» 08/09/10: NARP Members - Come to Grand Rapids in October!

NARP members are welcome at our Council of Representatives Meeting, October 15th-16th in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Federal Railroad Administrator Joseph Szabo will speak on the 15th.  Register now!  Special rates expire soon: for hotel rooms on Sept. 12, and the meeting registration fee on Sept. 30.  There is also a tour on the 14th.

Amtrak reveals the implementation of the first step in its long term fleet renewal plan, announcing the purchase of 130 new single-level railcars for the long distance network.  Read the NARP Chairman’s statement in support of the purchase.
